Wild bees are invaluable to our ecosystem. As pollinators, they make an important contribution to plant diversity alongside honey bees. With the same number of flower visits, they can achieve twice the fruit set compared to honey bees. Around 150 crops and around 80% of wild plants in Europe depend on pollination by insects. Without wild bees, many of these plants, and therefore numerous animal species, would be endangered.
To obtain a comprehensive overview of the distribution and diversity of these important insects, the MapBee platform was developed. MapBee is a specialised web application that makes it possible to systematically map and document wild bee observations. Our artificial intelligence (AI) predicts the species and the gender of the wild bee based on the images you upload.
By using MapBee, valuable data on the habitats and populations of wild bees can be collected, analysed and visualised. This information is crucial for targeted planning of conservation measures and for raising awareness of the importance of wild bees in our ecosystem.
